Charles-Philippe Lienemann graduated at the University of Geneva (Switzerland) in 1993. He then joined University of Lausanne (Switzerland) within the group of D. Perret and Prof. J-C. Bünzli for his PhD thesis (1997) dealing with the fate of pollutants and their interactions with Fe and Mn oxides and the biota in lake system. After his PhD, he joined SGS group in 1998 for 3 years as chemistry lab head in Wolff Environnement Labs in Lyon (France), leading a team of 6 technicians and performing 60 different analyses on environmental samples including soils, waste and water samples for an annual sale of k€700.
In 2000, he joined the French Institute of Petroleum (IFP) for a position of Elementary lab head in the research center of Lyon. In 2003, Dr Lienemann took the position of XRF/AAS/ICP lab head with 8 technicians, performing more than 10,000 analyses per year for the research and development of IFPEN. His personal research field is mainly based on the detection of inorganic contaminants within the petroleum matrices, catalysts, plastics and batteries by atomic emission techniques. He is involved in different PhD thesis done internally or in collaboration with University of Pau (France), University Claude Bernard Lyon (France) and University of Alicante (Spain) as an industrial superintendent. In 2012, he pass the certificate as a Research Director at University of Lyon and more recently in 2016, he is appointed as a scientific advisor and expert for chemical analysis and has lead one of the 9 scientific challenge of IFPEN called “Characterization of materials and fluids for the energy at different scale” between 2017 and 2022. He is also in charge of the standardization project in order to follow and participate to the evolution of standards and methods of analysis in the various fields of IFPEN.
