Summary

I am Rémy Mingant, an experienced research engineer at IFP Energies Nouvelles, specializing in corrosion, batteries, and materials. My journey is built upon a strong academic foundation, crowned by a Ph.D. in electrochemistry and a master's degree in process engineering from INP Grenoble. I initiated my professional career with a post-doctoral position at the Interfaces and Electrochemical Systems Laboratory (LISE CNRS) in Paris, followed by a significant role at IFPEN since May 2009. My passion for teaching has led me to impart my knowledge and expertise through training and education at institutions such as Mines d’Albi, Yncrea, INSA, and IFPTraining.

 

I have also been actively involved in the research ecosystem, collaborating with various teams and contributing to innovative projects. My career is marked by patents, including four invention patents on battery diagnostics, one patent on signal processing, and two patents on battery thermal management. These contributions underscore my commitment to innovation and technological development in the field of batteries and electrochemistry.

Projects

As a research engineer specializing in electrochemistry at IFP Energies Nouvelles, my research subjects are centered on three main areas:

  1. Aging and Diagnostics of Li-ion Batteries: My work involves investigating the aging of Li-ion batteries using AI-based models and diagnostic tools. This includes analyzing factors that affect the lifespan and performance of the batteries and developing methods to predict and enhance their longevity.
  2. Modeling: I focus on modeling using equivalent electrical circuits for batteries, as well as electrochemical modeling applied to corrosion. This approach aims for a deeper understanding of the behavior and internal processes of batteries and corrosion phenomena, to better predict and optimize their performance and durability. To learn more about our partnership and our work within the Electric Storage (ES) Library framework.
  3. Data Processing and AI in Battery Domain: I also engage in processing data from measurement instruments and applying AI to refine battery modeling. This involves analyzing experimental data to extract relevant information, which is then used in the development of more accurate predictive models.

I have contributed to activities in the following projects:

 

  1. MOBICUS Project (2013-2016): Focused on extending battery life based on vehicle usage, this project was conducted in collaboration with renowned partners including Renault, Valeo, EDF, LMS, Controlsys, DBT-CEV, ADM Concept, IFPEN, CEA, IFSTTAR-LTE, and IMS-Bordeaux. The project emphasized innovative strategies for battery aging, including the calibration of the aging model based on experimental measurements.
  2. In progress: IFPEN / Siemens Digital Industries Software Partnership - Electric Storage (ES) Library for Simcenter Amesim Software : In this partnership, we worked together on the ES library of the Amesim software, focusing on the co-development of Li-ion battery models and electrothermal calibration, incorporating aging aspects.
  3. Thesis Supervision - Quentin Mayemba: I am currently supervising Quentin Mayemba's thesis, a collaborative project with Siemens and the Ampere laboratory (Lyon), focusing on the application of AI to study the aging of Li-ion batteries.
