The ERBAG project (in French: Ecoulement et Rétention de Bactérie pour l’Application Géothermie) being conducted over the period 2020-2021 falls within the scope of the ANCRE alliance (Alliance nationale de coordination de la recherche pour l'énergie) and aims to resolve a problem encountered in the field of geothermal energy: the build-up of bacteria and the formation of biofilms in reservoirs, causing plugging of wells and corrosion of circulation pipes. Along with its other partners in the ERBAG project, LEMTA (Laboratoire Énergies & Mécanique Théorique et Appliquée) and LCPME (Laboratoire de Chimie Physique et Microbiologie pour les Matériaux et l'Environnement), IFPEN is seeking to understand the bacterial growth mechanism and to select the most effective biocidal agents to combat the production of H2S. In this context, the aim is to characterize the flow of the product in this porous medium and the plugging of the latter, based on flushing experiments for the treatment of biofilms.
